Seven remakes in, and it"s still the same story- except this one is a bit more woke. Louisa May Alcott wrote what she wrote; she didn"t have to explain much. I"m just surprised they didn"t turn Jo into a lesbian marching for voting rights. Jo allllllll day, EVERYDAY! At 35 my mother and grandmother are worried I wont ever want a husband or kids and instead want to do something beyond that. Not that a husband and kids arent important but like Jo its not all every woman who is ever born is meant to do or be a wife and/or mother. As a fan who grew up on the 1994 version (born in 93) I thoroughly enjoyed this version. I was shocked to walk out of the theatre and realise 2 hours had passed. There were plenty of memorable scenes mixed with new perspectives that didn"t ruin it in any way. My only issue was it was sometimes hard to tell what scenes were the flash backs, but again, that didn"t remove from the movie at all. That"s why DiCaprio didn"t get an Oscar for so long - he refused to sleep with Weinstein.

Greta Gerwig"s Little Women overtakes the many other smarmy, unpalitable, cloying Little Women done on the big screen and for television, and makes this a minor big screen miracle. Louisa May Alcott would have approved. GREAT writing and directing. I got dragged to the theater to see it, and am convinced that she is one of the few very fine film makers working today. She"s such a Hermione in this interview! You gotta love her...
